I am a third generation sheet metal contractor specializing in the installation of galvanized and copper rain gutters and downspouts. All of my work is custom cut and soldered to fit your house. No pre-fabricated seams or corners. I do all necessary preparation to ensure the work is done properly. This includes making sure that the rafter tails, and/or fascia wood is in good working order. I use only redwood for the work. Custom flashings are installed where necessary to make sure the water is delivered into the gutters properly. The downspouts are also custom cut and soldered to fit.
The reasons I install only galvanized and copper instead of aluminum. The main reason is that you cannot solder aluminum. You must use some sort of sealant or glue, and with the expansion and contraction of the material on a daily basis (you could have a 30 degree swing in the weather every day!) the corners and seams will crack and leak. Even with "Seamless" gutters you will have two pieces come together at a corner, or miter. The aluminum is far thinner than the steel and will expand and contract a great deal more. Soldered seams become part of the gutter and will last far longer. Other reasons include the aluminum downspouts, which are corrugated, and have slip together elbows, which are less elegant than one piece soldered downspouts.
